chronicle #12 Fröhliche weihnachten, or berlin xmas

December 25, 2011 § Leave a comment

Once upon a time, a girl left her tropical island to live up in Europe, where in December, the sun sets at 4 in the afternoon. Where for Christmas, it sometimes rains, sometimes snows, sometimes both and for sure, it’s always cold. Well this year, I ended up in Berlin, alternative capital city right in fashion these days. My luck was to be able to spend these celebrations in a German family, with traditions and all – which essentially mean eating a lot of chocolate, drinking coffee when we don’t eat Stöllen or special dishes, and knoedels and delicious red cabbage… but also decorating the Xmas tree with “mehr lametta”, and lighting all candles, wrapping the presents, and for those who wish to remember whose birthday this is, go to church sometime around 10 pm. But this is not exactly what I wish to write about tonight.

This post is more about all the wonderful Xmas atmosphere here in the German capital, which of course is not unrelated to food and presents, but deserves a special series of pictures. Well, anyhow, Merry Christmas all, and enjoy the views of Berlin !
