(wwl) elevations dreams

We all have dreams of flying away. I have that dream in which I slowly float up in the air and start air-travelling as if I were swimming in the sky. Wonderful landscapes people dreams of that sort. When I accidentally stumbled upon French photographer Maia Flore, I had the feeling that I was being transported into childhood dreams again. A dream-like atmosphere is wrapping the photographies of the series “Sleep Elevations”. She seems to be recreating the very essence of sleep itself : the mass of the body Vs the ethereal sensation of sleep.
I have read certain comments about this work – probably by some better photography critics than I am, right – that were evoking the idea of sacrifice and despair. So I might be retarded in some ways or, at the best, weird, but I’m not feeling anything like this through these. My interpretation is closer to the poetry of dreams, I actually find these scenes peaceful, full of tranquility and in some ways – hope. Hope of evasion, hope of reaching another world. Does it contain a sense of morbidity in the way that you would have to pass through death to find that world? Not so sure – I regularly enter new worlds through my dreams. But that’s just my humble interpretation…
